Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is COOP Charities USA?

COOP Charities USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing homelessness, supporting families in crisis, and protecting children from instability. Through our program, Eviction Angels, we provide emergency rent relief and direct family support to help prevent eviction, homelessness, and long-term hardship.

2. What is Eviction Angels?

Eviction Angels is a program of COOP Charities USA that provides emergency rent assistance to individuals and families experiencing short-term financial hardship. By helping cover rent during unexpected crises, we prevent eviction and homelessness before they occur.

3. How much of my donation goes directly to helping families?

We are committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of every donation. A minimum of 80% of every donation goes directly to assisting individuals and families in need, including rental relief, emergency financial support, and family stabilization services. The remaining portion supports essential administrative, operational, and program management costs.

4. How do you ensure funds are used appropriately?

We utilize a strict verification and screening system to ensure donations go to families genuinely in need. This includes reviewing documentation such as eviction notices, proof of hardship, income records, and landlord verification. Funds are often paid directly to landlords or verified vendors, not to individuals, ensuring support goes exactly where intended.

5. Who qualifies for assistance?

Eligibility is based on demonstrated short-term financial hardship, risk of eviction or displacement, and the ability to maintain stability after assistance. Priority is given to families with children, veterans, seniors, and individuals facing sudden income loss or crisis situations.

6. Why is preventing eviction so important?

Preventing eviction saves families from trauma and keeps communities strong. It is also financially responsible: preventing homelessness is significantly less costly than supporting individuals after they lose housing. Short-term rent assistance is often a fraction of what it costs taxpayers to fund shelters, welfare support, and emergency services.

7. How are donations used specifically?

Your donation may help pay overdue rent, cover emergency housing costs, stabilize families in crisis, provide essential support services, and protect children from the severe emotional and financial impact of homelessness. Every contribution makes an immediate and measurable difference.

8. Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, COOP Charities USA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. A receipt will be provided for your records.
